SOUTHPOINT REFUTES PYA’S STATEMENT ON EVICTIONS
SouthPoint would like to correct an irresponsible statement that was issued by the Wits University PYA on 19 September, which states that we are planning to evict students who have not been able to honour their rental commitments during the lockdown period – this is incorrect. The statement further states that we have also discontinued Wi-Fi services, which is also not true.
In light of this statement that has been circulating on social media, SouthPoint would like to state the following to students, parents, staff, stakeholders and institutions:
- FACT: There are no planned evictions of any students at SouthPoint buildings.
- FACT: There are also allegations in the statement that we have discontinued Wi-Fi services, which is also incorrect. There was a break in service on Saturday afternoon (19 September) due to fibre line issues, which was resolved by Sunday, 20 September, after it was reported in to the service provider.
- NOTE: Students who have not been able to keep up with their rental commitments have been encouraged to reach out to us and make the necessary payment arrangements.
- NOTE: Our communication lines have remained opened during the lockdown and, as always, students have been requested to email us on firstname.lastname@example.org with any queries – we’d be happy to assist.
We understand that the SRC election season is around the corner. Based on past experience over the years, the elections often lead to the “championing of causes” that have not been thoroughly investigated and that are often pursued, shared and fought – far too often without merit.
